Dubbed the internet of blockchains, Cosmos is a project that popped up around 2016. The platform is focused on cross-chain compatibility as it seeks to address scalability and interoperability issues that have plagued various blockchains over the years. It also aims to increase collaboration and communication between different blockchains something that doesn't presently exist.
The platform is a proof of stake (PoS) platform and it runs on Tendermint algorithm which is well suited for scaling public PoS blockchains. Its architecture consists of several independent blockchains that are known as "Zones" which are attached to the central blockchain known as the "Hub."
