An analysis of SegWit’s impact on Bitcoin

Segregated Witness is one of the most significant and hotly debated protocol upgrades ever implemented into the Bitcoin protocol. Its implementation, along with other software upgrades, opened the protocol up to support new developments like the Lightning Network and Atomic Swaps.

It has been nearly two years since Segregated Witness was activated on block height 481,824. Since then, the protocol has experienced considerable growth, with nearly 40% of daily bitcoin transactions today being SegWit transactions, as seen in the chart below.
